Luke Roper (co-founder of Luke 1977 Clothing) was born in Walsall, and the son of a talented wedding dressmaker. At the age of twelve Luke was already adept at using a sewing machine and soon became interested in the whole process behind producing garments. At fifteen years old, Luke was making shirts for his friends. After leaving school Luke enrolled in a fashion and textiles course at his local Walsall College and, in 1997, got a place at Central Saint Martin’s College of Fashion in London where he began a 3-year specialist menswear design degree.
